It was late summer in 2008 when the Stevens family, consisting of Joe, Jacki and Caleb found themselves being called to serve individuals they found all over town who were homeless. At the time Caleb was just seven years old, he would help load the car and as Joe and Jacki drove around town Caleb would hand out various supplies. As time went on the Stevens family discovered they had big hearts for the homeless and wanted to help in a bigger way.
It wasn’t long before Joppa emerged to help the homeless survive until they could transition into housing. Once they were in housing it was important that Joppa maintain relationships with those they had come to know and help. This committment not only improved outcomes for individuals newly housed, but also kept the spirit of the organization’s origination in mind which is to love and care for those that might not otherwise experiences this in their lives.
Joppa carries out its mission entirely on private donations from individuals, families, churches, sponsors and other organizations. As a result of this support, Joppa has helped nearly 250 men, women and children get off the streets since 2008 and 90% remain in housing today.
When you give to Joppa you make a real difference in the lives of those we serve!
