On Saturday, Sheri Kutsch-Stanton held the “Hostas for Joppa” event at Joppa.
Over 200 hostas filled the parking lot and were sold from $4 for starts to $40 for variegated beauties.
One man purchased three hostas in the morning and later came back for more, stating: “I have more room and wanted to support the cause!”
Many people bought an entire crate of plants. Kutsch-Stanton explained each hosta will grow to be four times the size it is right now. She spent five weeks prior to the event caring for the plants, having transplanted the starts into milk jugs donated by Freidrich’s Coffee.
Joppa KIDS were on location selling lemonade, cookies, Mike Buckley’s mustard and Mother’s Day balloons. The kids helped set up the event, interacted with visitors and carried purchased hostas when needed.
The event benefited Joppa outreach programs for the homeless.
