Winter Survival Programs

Providing warmth—and hope.

For many of us, winter conjures up thoughts of warm fireplaces, hot cocoa and spending time with loved ones. For homeless people living in Polk County, however, the winter is dark, cold and dangerous. These unsheltered individuals are thinking of only one thing: survival.

You can help them survive this winter. Share your blessings by giving temporary shelters, heaters, fuel and winter boots to those in need. Your contribution will warm both the bodies and hearts of people trying to survive Iowa’s freezing cold temperatures.

WINTER SURVIVAL SHELTERS

Temporary Winter Shelter Packages for those with no immediate options for housing or other shelter. Includes tent, rain fly, tarp, sleeping bag, blankets & pillow.

• Ten Shelter Packages: $1,500
• Five Shelter Packages: $750
• One Shelter Package: $150

HEATER SYSTEMS

A heater for those without immediate housing options. Safe for indoor-use in tents, cabins & wooden structures. Includes heater, two 20-lb propane tanks and a hose.

• Ten Heater Systems: $1,250
• Five Heater Systems: $625
• One Heater System: $125

HEATER FUEL

Weekly delivery of propane fuel for heater systems. A 20-lb tank provides one week of heat average per dwelling. Each person receives an extra tank of fuel as a backup.

• Ten people for one month: $600
• Five people for one month: $300
• One person for one month: $60

WINTER BOOTS

Waterproof boots to help prevent frostbite and trench foot. To survive, homeless people often walk 10-20 miles per day to sources of food, work and other resources.

• Ten pairs of boots: $900
