Homelessness continues to grow across Greater Des Moines. In just five years, the number of people turning to Joppa for help has nearly tripled. In 2025 alone, Joppa served 2,425 homeless men, women and children through nearly 20,000 visits, providing consistent outreach, advocacy and support. 

Every week, Joppa goes directly to people living under bridges, in tents, vehicles and on the streets. Through Street Outreach, the Homeless Resource Center, Housing Support and long-term Aftercare, staff and volunteers provide immediate help, build trusted relationships, remove barriers to housing and continue walking alongside people after they move into homes.

More than 80% of Joppa’s financial support comes from people like you. Private generosity sustains the outreach, meals, housing assistance and long-term support that help people survive today and move toward lasting stability.

And it works. Joppa has helped more than 900 people get off the streets, and 84% were still off the streets at last contact.

Your generosity can make substantial impact:

• $2,500 can help a couple transition off the streets.
• $5,000 can help a family with children transition off the streets.
• $10,000 can fund about one month of citywide Street Outreach & Aftercare.
• $25,000 can provide a formerly homeless Joppa Village neighbor with a year of support to help them remain housed and succeed.
• $50,000 can provide that annual support for two Joppa Village neighbors.
