Thriftmart Voted Best Thrift Store!

We are thrilled to announce that Thriftmart was voted Best Thrift Store by the community in the 2025 Des Moines People’s Choice Awards! “Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who voted and to our incredible community of customers, donors, volunteers and staff whose dedication made this honor possible,” shared Thriftmart CEO Jacki Stevens.

Thriftmart opened in October 2022 with a simple mission: to support Joppa and raise awareness about how we can work together to help lift homeless individuals and families off our streets. As one of central Iowa’s only locally owned and operated nonprofit thrift stores, Thriftmart offers clothing, accessories, home goods and décor. Every donation directly helps our homeless neighbors in Greater Des Moines.

“Our donors and customers truly go above and beyond for our cause, and it shows in every donated item that comes through our doors,” remarked store manager Panine Cope. “From unique treasures to premium finds, each donation helps us make a real impact—and many of our top-quality items are sold online to extend that impact further.”

Shoppers often become enthusiastic ambassadors for Thriftmart, raving about the store’s elevated shopping experience. Unlike traditional thrift stores, our store is clean, well-lit, organized and even smells inviting. Customers know they can find quality items every time they visit. “So many treasures! Looking ahead, our goal is to expand Thriftmart, eventually opening additional locations. Multiple stores could one day cover 100% of our core operating expenses—including supporting Joppa Village operations—helping us serve even more people.
